During a time of unprecedented upheaval and uncertainty, we have been so grateful that amidst this chaos: the consistency of the delivery of the Beds for Kids program has been able to endure. For many families, the program has been a beacon of light in our community through a very dark time. Thanks to your generosity, so far this year over 1,250 children have received a bed, blankets, sheets, a quilt, a pillow, a toothbrush, a stuffed animal, and bedtime books of their very own. On their behalf, thank you for your support.
One of the essentials we have been reliant on to make this possible has been our trusty box truck, however unfortunately our reliable 1997 box truck has not been so reliable in recent months as the truck has aged each year it needs more investment to keep it on the road and running well and safely for our volunteers. As many of you know it has served us well, and we have certainly put it through its paces!
We need your help! Today, we embark on our campaign to raise funds to replace our Box truck to ensure we can continue delivering beds to children in need. Our goal is to continue to provide beds for even more families by raising $80,000 to replace the existing truck with something of the same size, that is more reliable and efficient and will allow us to serve thousands more children in need for many years to come.
It is a big goal, but we know that with your support we can achieve our goal to keep the Beds for Kids program on the road!
As many of you know, in February this year we lost a very special volunteer, Nancy Larsen. Nancy wore very many hats in her life and was beloved by everyone who knew her. To us, she was a loving friend and passionate supporter of our mission, but not least Coordinator Extraordinaire of ‘Sew-Haat’, the group who make all of our handmade pillowcases, which are included in every single bedtime bag. Nancy put so much care and love into this project spending hours selecting fabrics, putting together kits, quality checking and meticulously managing the inventory to make sure every child had a pillowcase they would be thrilled to receive. Not to mention, the countless young sewers she taught and inspired to join the mission along the way! Nancy also made many beautiful quilts that were included in the bedtime bags and she came out on deliveries with our volunteer group from Jarrettown United Methodist Church every single month.
Nancy was a beautiful human inside and out and is terribly missed by us all, however, her legacy lives on through the ongoing work of Sew-Haat. To honor this wonderful work and commitment to the Beds for Kids program, we will be dedicating our new truck to Nancy so that her legacy and passion for the mission lives on in every future delivery.
With your support, we will impact our community in a lasting way! Please join us by making your secure online gift here.
We need friends like you to let these children know they matter.
