Spring Intern - Kevin Biju

Kevin jumped right in on his first delivery!

Kevin Biju recently completed his doctoral studies at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Back home in PA for a few months, Kevin sought a charity to lend his time and talents. He has been interning with OHAAT since late February, helping with volunteer groups, projects in our office and warehouse, and even assisting on a bed delivery. Kevin will soon begin his residency at the University of Southern California Medical Center in a vigorous otolaryngology (ear, nose & throat) program.

We are so fortunate for all of Kevin's support of the Beds for kids program! Get to know him here:

How will you use your OHAAT experience in your residency program/future roles?

I think that service and engagement are very important skills for a career as a physician. The social and financial backgrounds of people are often so important to their health. As a future physician, I hope to be receptive to the backgrounds of patients and pay attention to underlying factors that may play a role in their health, including sleep, education, and nutrition.

What were you looking for in an organization as an intern?

I was looking for an organization with a tangible and practical impact. Sleep medicine and health are very important to ENT doctors and so I was thankful to find an organization like OHAAT that combines both service and my career interests. Once I reached out through a volunteer match website and learned more about the organization, I knew that OHAAT was the right place for me this spring.

What has your favorite part about volunteering at OHAAT been?

My favorite part of OHAAT has definitely been the opportunity to be involved in all steps leading up to a bed delivery, including packing the bags and helping deliver in the truck. In addition to being humbled by the impact of the delivery, I have enjoyed meeting so many wonderful members of the organization as well as volunteers who continue to selflessly give their time and donations to help those in need.
