Dynamic Duo
In a very unusual (but extremely welcome) turn of events, OHAAT is currently hosting two fantastic interns! Mary-Catherine Le started interning with OHAAT in October 2023, and was then joined by Rebecca Farley in January.
Mary-Catherine is finishing her Bachelor of Science in Public Health at Gwynedd Mercy University, and has begun studies in the Masters program. Professionally, Mary-Catherine would like to focus on helping low-income individuals and families. She is also in several campus groups including the Public Health Club, Asian Students Association, Voices of Gwynedd, and Open Jam Club.
Rebecca is finishing her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at Temple University, with a minor in Criminal Justice and Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies. After graduation, Rebecca hopes to work for either a non-profit or in local government.
Get to know them both here:
How will you use your OHAAT experience in your future roles?
Mary-Catherine: The experience I have gained at OHAAT will be helpful for my future in Public Health. Multitasking, communication, and organization skills were refined during my time with the OHAAT team.
Rebecca: I want to go into the nonprofit sector or local government upon my graduation this spring from Temple University. From my OHAAT experience, I will use all of my knowledge in the areas of operation and volunteering I have and I will learn. I will also use the information I have and will learn about how to be mindful in every aspect when coordinating with families and packing the bed bags.
What were you looking for in an organization to intern at?
Mary-Catherine: In my search, I was looking for opportunities that I could be a part of to grow and prosper. I wanted to find an organization that matched my strong work ethic. Thankfully, I found OHAAT. They have been very welcoming and introduced me to many projects that kept me busy and gave me the experience to form a foundation for my public health career.
Rebecca: When looking for an organization to intern at I was mindful of the fact of my possible future in non-profit work. I wanted to gain experience in this sector and learn more about it. My goal was to gain knowledge I can use in the future. I knew that I wanted a service-based internship that provides essential needs to people
What has your favorite part about interning at OHAAT been?
Mary-Catherine: My favorite part about interning at OHAAT has been the people I got to work with and the events I was involved with. I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to work with the volunteers who come in during the week to pack bags, sort through books, or organize various parts of the warehouse. The events I’ve been involved with have given me a different view on the needs of children and families, which has helped me develop my ideas and overall needs for others.
Rebecca: My favorite part of interning at OHAAT has been getting to know all of the wonderful people who make OHAAT possible. It has been a great experience working alongside everyone in the office as well as all of the volunteers.
How has working alongside another intern shaped your experience at OHAAT?
Mary-Catherine: Coincidentally, Rebecca and I attended the same high school, so we already had a great connection. However, working alongside another intern has made the experience more fun, she and I can catch up, talk, and go hard at work for Beds for Kids. She’s terrific!
Rebecca: Working alongside another intern has definitely shaped my experience at OHAAT. Mary-Catherine and I worked together in high school at a local nursing home. It has been great to see and work with her again. It is nice to collaborate with someone who you already know you work well together.
